Why this website is so slow

IPSX is an on-again, off-again type of blog. Not keen on usability or anything. Well, in some ways it is—but read on.

You could say, ‘this website doesn’t feel like a masterstroke. Not the work of a genius.’ And you’d be right. It’s not a masterstroke. But before I tell you the secret to slow loading pages, let me first tell you a quick story about how IPSX came to be.

I’m sure you’ve all experienced that feeling, that pleasant breath of fresh air, when confidence fades to black. We’ve all been there, haven’t we. In fact, despondency among designers (read creatives) and marketing folk alike has been causing so much buzz (for lack of a better term), that some of us—to quote one of my great predecessors—decided to investigate.

It seems that, whenever a designer or a copywriter bows down his or her head, in a distant, secluded part of the world, something wonderful happens. The world is a bit better off for it. Things run smoothly once again. That’s the short version, anyway.

Having just taken a stab at prose (or illustration), the young—alas, addicted to retail and dashes—, promising creative, goes back to his or her normal routine. Good stuff there. Quit while you’re ahead, that’s what I say.

IPSX is here to get to the bottom of it all. In some ways it’s meant to encourage the world of make-belief that is advertising to take a step back. To come to its senses, so to speak.

So here’s to unfairness. To fear. To lack of foresight. To deception. To angst. All wonderful, wonderful friends of any aspiring designer or copywriter.

And the secret to slow loading pages is just that: keep things single. And focused. Keep them about your core business, which, in this case, is encouraging others to quit. And, above all, never ever ever optimize.
