This better work

Bukowski once said that, unless it’s coming out on its own — and coming out in a no-chance-they’ll-miss-it-‘Brokeback Mountain’ kind of way —, you shouldn’t even be trying. ‘Stop trying so hard’, he used to say.

No shame in not being able to write. We do it all the time, surrounded by clueless epics. Writing—the skill—has long been lost for our generation. Perhaps never there to start with.Like many an aspiring writers before him, when he started out, Bukowski too had a bone to pick with history. Unlike many, however, he wasn’t too proud to get the weeds out first.

Most of the one-shot wonders — this ‘too-proud-for-stuff-to-actually-matter’ breed—stopped writing as soon as they put digital ink to paper. Fine choice, that. Their final, bold, all caps ‘non serviam’ to this world.

Writers, good and bad, alive or not, but mostly just looking forward to those fresh empty pages—this better work.
